2 Part Inventions |
2 Part Inventions is the name given to a series of masterclasses instigated by Pianist Yolande Wrigley, and musician/Alexander Technique teacher Cat Jary. The aim of the masterclasses is to bring overall ease at the piano allowing for a greater range of tonal production, subtlety and expression.
Format of the masterclass
Each student will work with both tutors in the class for a total of approximately 45 minutes.
Cat will begin each session, discovering the student's habits of use, both with and away from the piano, applying Alexander Technique to help the student reduce unnecessary habits that may be hampering the pianist. Yolande will then continue the session, helping the pianist find a way to develop greater fluidity and expression in their playing.
Repertoire
The emphasis of these classes is on overall ease at the piano, not brilliance and showmanship. Suggested repertoire for this type of work:

. Chopin Nocturnes
