About the Area
The Alexander Music School is located in the
charming Moorish village of Ferreirola, reputedly the oldest
village in the Alpujarras Mountains in Southern Spain. Ferreirola
has a peaceful ambience, the pace of life being very slow
and relaxed. A short stroll through the chestnut tunnelled
streets brings one instantly to groves of fig, olive, orange
and almond trees. The house, village and mountain location
provide a perfect atmosphere for study, contemplation and
enjoyment.
The courses are held in a 700 year-old Moorish house situated
in a prime position in the heart of Ferreirola with views
of the picturesque village and mountains. Many original features
have been retained and old wood-burning stoves are available
to keep off the winter chill. The house and Ferreirola were
recently used in the Oscar nominated film "South From
Granada" based on the English writer Gerald Brenan’s
stay in the Alpujarras in the 1920s.
