Please be aware that to reach such an unspoilt area takes a little time, but the journey can add to the adventure of exploring and travelling abroad.
Getting to Spain:
There are two possible airports to fly to:
Granada:
This is the closest airport to the Alexander Music School but Granada is not an International airport (there will however be direct flights from London to Granada starting in February 2005, and from Liverpool to Granada starting in April 2005). The journey to AMS takes approximately one and a half hours.
Malaga:
Malaga is a busy international airport, with numerous flights going to this destination from all over Europe. However the journey time to the Alexander Music School takes longer (up to 3 hours).
Getting from the airport to the Alexander Music School in Ferreirola:
From Granada:
·AMS transfer: For the cost of £25, AMS can arrange a return transfer from Granada airport/bus station to the music school in Ferreirola or nearby Mecina. Please enquire to Cat Jary for details of times.
·Buses from Granada bus station to the Alpujarras are very cheap and reliable, stopping at various small towns and villages in the Alpujarras, eg Orgiva, Pitres. Bus timetables are available on the internet, or from AMS (for a small charge, the staff of the Alexander Music School may be able to offer transport to Ferreirola from these points but please confirm a minimum of one week in advance of your departure for availability).
·Car hire is possible from Granada (reserve in advance). Cat Jary will be able to send you directions of how to find the AMS in Ferreirola.
From Malaga:
·AMS transfer: For the cost of £40, AMS can arrange a return transfer from Malaga airport to the music school in Ferreirola or nearby Mecina. The departure time from Malaga to Ferreirola/Mecina is 4.30pm. The return transfer from Mecina is 8am (N.B. the earliest possible flight is 1pm). The journey time is about 3 hours.
·Buses are available from Malaga to Granada. The journey lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes, and costs approximately 8 euros. The buses are fast, frequent and reliable, with some playing videos.
·Car hire is possible from Malaga (reserve in advance). Cat Jary will be able to send you directions of how to find the AMS in Ferreirola.
If you have sufficient time, we recommend that you spend a few more days either in the Alpujarras, or in Granada itself. We will be happy to suggest places to stay. If you intend to book a morning flight from Granada, it is worth considering spending one extra day and night in Granada, to make the most of this magical city.
Please do not hesitate to contact Cat Jary to discuss travel and accommodation plans before confirming any bookings/reservations.
Cat Jary will be happy to recommend a Flight Centre to help book flights to Spain
