AMS Education projects

In 2004 AMS initiated an education project with the local primary school in Pitres, beginning with a string demonstration workshop and concert. The demonstration concert was led by John Shayler, a violin and viola teacher and former head of strings for Bedfordshire Music Service for 30 years. John has also gained much pedagogic experience though his work as the International Liaison Officer for ESTA (European String Teachers Association), and as a mentor for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Approximately 140 children aged between 3 and 12 attended, showing huge interest in the family of string instruments (even though they were insistent the cellos were really guitars in disguise!!). AMS is now looking to expand the project with local schools to include the secondary school and to invite composers and teachers to work on a variety of projects.

Education project 2005: EMFEB composers

In addition to concerts and demonstrations with the school, AMS is pleased to invite Emfeb’s composers, Benjamin Ellin and Owen Bourne, to work with the local school in Pitres in summer 2005. Benjamin Ellin and Owen Bourne, through a series of workshops over the course of a week, will compose a piece/show, combining local themes and cultural influences such as flamenco, with traditional classical music.
There will be a performance at the end of the week.
