AMS for Hire

AMS is intended primarily as a centre of learning. In addition to running a varied programme of courses and concerts throughout the year, at certain periods the school building is available for hire by individuals or small groups.

Who can hire the AMS building?
The AMS building is suitable for hire by any of the following persons:
1. Music teachers wishing to have a venue to host his/her own course.
2. Musicians, with the purpose of rehearsing/making music, either for pleasure or working towards a performance.
3. Alexander Technique teachers, working according to the principles as defined by FM Alexander in his four books.
4. Those wishing to have a venue to host performing arts courses.
5. Teachers wishing to host courses in Spanish related subjects, such as Spanish language, cookery, history or literature.
Please note that the AMS building is not to be used as a holiday home.
AMS is not suitable for accommodating the participants of proposed courses.

What options are available for hiring the AMS building?
The AMS building was constructed in a traditional Alpujarran style and has been recently renovated and furnished in a style appropriate to the area of Las Alpujarras. The building, on three levels, provides a spacious venue for gatherings of groups of 10-12 people, and for courses recommends a maximum of 18 in a group for the facilities and space within the house. The Performing Suite, on the ground floor, is capable of holding larger groups for specific events, such as concerts.
There are three options available for the hire of the building according to the use envisaged and the number of people attending.
These are categorised as follows:
1. Full AMS
2. AMS Living
3. The Performing Suite


1.Full AMS:
This is for those who wish to hire the entire building and is suitable for groups of up to 18. It includes the following:
Ground floor (the Performing Suite):
· Entrance hallway
· Recital room with piano, large enough to hold rehearsals for approximately 16 players. Alternatively this room can be used for recitals, with an audience capacity of approximately 35 people.
· Double/twin bedroom for tutor with en suite shower
· Cloakroom
Middle floor:
· Music room with an upright piano (and 2 small balconies)
· Fully equipped kitchen
· Fully equipped bathroom
· Lounge with wood burning stove
· Double/twin bedroom suitable for a tutor/helper
Top floor:
· Large room suitable for use as an Alexander teaching classroom or music rehearsal room
· Dining room capable of seating 18
· Stunning mountain views

2.AMS Living:
This is suitable only for groups of less than 10 who do not need the additional space and facilities of the Performing Suite. It includes:
Middle floor:
· Music room with an upright piano (and 2 small balconies)
· Fully equipped kitchen
· Fully equipped bathroom
· Lounge with wood burning stove
· Double/twin bedroom suitable for a tutor/helper
Top floor:
· Large room suitable for use as an Alexander teaching classroom or music rehearsal room
· Dining room capable of seating 18
· Stunning mountain views

3.The Performing Suite:
Situated on the ground floor of the building, this is suitable for one or two musicians wishing to hold rehearsals and concerts. It includes:
· Entrance hallway
· Recital room with piano, large enough to hold rehearsals for approximately 16 players. Alternatively this room can be used for recitals, with an audience capacity of approximately 35 people.
· Double/twin bedroom for tutor with en suite shower
· Cloakroom

What is included in the hire of the AMS building?
Any hire booking will always include the following:
· AMS help in UK: Cat Jary, the director, will arrange the bookings and any other general enquiries.
· AMS help in Spain: John Ward, house manager, lives in Capilerilla, a village further up the valley, and will visit AMS every day, to assist with any queries and problems that may arise. Carmen, a resident of Ferreirola, will clean the house as previously agreed.
· AMS website publicity: Manus Carey, the publicist, will arrange for details of your course to be posted on the AMS website.

For how long can the AMS building be hired?
In normal circumstances the Alexander Music School (AMS) will be available for bookings of one week. Bookings of less or more than a week are possible subject to certain conditions. In all cases please contact Cat Jary for availability and costs.

What other assistance can AMS provide?
For an additional charge, AMS can arrange one or all of the following (subject to availability):
· Publicity advertising for your course in the UK
· Travel from airports/bus/train stations to AMS (the cost will be passed on to each individual participant)
· Booking of accommodation for participants in local hotels (the cost will passed on to each individual participant)
· Arranging of concerts at venues other than AMS
· Publicity for public concerts in agreed venues
· Spanish classes at AMS
· Alexander Technique lessons with a suitably experienced teacher
· Alpujarran lunches/evening meals at AMS
· Horse trekking
· Day trip and tickets to the Alhambra Palace in Granada
· Guided walks
· Extra domestic help, e.g. washing up

What is the next step?
Before a booking can be confirmed, potential hirers must send a written proposal of intended use of the AMS building including the preferred hire option, the potential number of participants and any specific requirements and extra help needed. For any proposals please contact us
