Further Reading:

For further reading Cat Jary suggests:

1)
The information on the Alexander Studio web site.

2)
F M Alexander’s four books:

  • Use of the Self
  • Man’s Supreme Inheritance
  • Constructive Conscious Control of the Individual
  • The Universal Constant in Living

Within these books Alexander describes how he discovered his own mis-use and what he did about it. He outlines how man’s approach to life is having a detrimental effect on both himself and society, and Alexander suggests his alternative method, based on his observations of man’s overall mis-use of himself.

Professor John Dewey the educational philosopher, wrote the introduction to “Man’s Supreme Inheritance”, and in “the Universal Constant” Professor George Coghill, pioneer of developmental neurophysiology, wrote an “appreciation” in scientific support of Alexander’s educational methods. Both men were pupils of F M Alexander.

3)
Some may wish to read ‘The Personal Account’ of the Teacher Training course. The account describes how Cat came to understand how she could apply Alexander Technique to her problems, and how the principles described in F M Alexander’s four books relate to the practical work. The following are some of the principles.
