Future Courses

The following are some of the courses being planned for 2005, with the following teachers:

Music:

Cello masterclasses:
In September, Cellist Bernard Gregor-Smith, will combine a week’s masterclasses with recitals. As well as being a founder member of the internationally renowned Lindsay String Quartet, Bernard is much in demand as a teacher and soloist.
Participants: cellists Grade 7 and above:
Observers: cello teachers; cello students; lovers of the cello.

Chamber music:
Joseph Davies, Conductor and violinist, and friends will lead a week of chamber music in early summer. Details to follow.

Alexander Technique:

Details to be confirmed

In 2005, the ‘core programme’ of courses is being expanded to combine Alexander Technique and its application to music.

Alexander Technique for Singers:
In April Alex Farkas will lead a series of masterclasses, working with how singers may benefit applying the Alexander Technique.
Alex Farkas is a graduate of the Manhatton School of Music. He has worked in the Music faculty at Yale, and until Summer 2003 was a member of staff at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, USA. He has worked as accompanist to Jennie Tourel, Piere Bernac and Nabuco Imai. Alex trained to be an Alexander Technique teacher with Shoshana Kamanitz, London. Alex is now much in demand in conservatoires in London, in particular giving masterclasses to incorporate Alexander Technique into singing.
Participants: professional singers; music students studying singing
Observers: singing teachers; Alexander Teachers; those with an interest in singing.

Just Play Naturally:
In July, Vivien Mackie will lead a course entitled ‘Just Play Naturally’. Vivien is the author of ‘Just Play Naturally’, a beautiful account where she recalls how her Alexander Technique training echoed her lessons with Cellist Pablo Casals, twenty years earlier.
Vivien Mackie is invited all over the world, giving courses and workshops on how the principles of Alexander Technique relate to playing.
Participants: instrumentalists, singers, teachers, students and performers
Observers: instrumentalists, singers, teachers, Alexander Teachers, students and performers.
